2 veterans have been left in doubt over their future, after failing to renew their contracts with the Manchester club. Both players have seen less playing time this season, mostly sitting on the bench and being introduced as subs.

It is believed that they have only 4 months left on their contracts, which means they will be allowed to leave on a bosman come the summer.

Nemanja Vidic (34 years old) was signed from Russian side Spartak Moscow back in 2006, after Manchester United were able to hijack the deal, as Udinese and Fiorentina were interested. During his time at Old Trafford, he established himself as a fan favorite, became captain and was considered one of the best defenders of his generation.

Michael Carrick (34 years old) joined from Tottenham Hotspur, same year as Vidic. Although his efforts on the pitch were recognized very late in his career, Carrick was a consistent performer for the Red Devils whenever needed.

Both players have won 5 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League medal, 3 League Cups, 6 Community Shields and 1 FIFA Club World Cup during their time with Manchester United.

Recently, we have seen Manchester United getting knocked out by Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, bowing out to Celtic on away goals in the Champions League, and falling behind Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League.

So what has really happened at Old Trafford?

The answer is simple; lack of depth. Manchester United started the season with 22 players, and had to recall another 2 players from their loans as the Red Devils' suffered an injury crisis in the beginning of the season.

Players have hardly took any break, and that is affecting their stamina and form.

For example; Leighton Baines has started every Manchester United game this season, except 2. Same goes for other players like Phil Jones, Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa. They have been playing week in week out for their team.

Now David Moyes could've solved this issue by simply purchasing 1 or 2 players to give his star players some rest, but the Scotsman was reluctant to bring any new faces in January, and that has cost him advancing in the FA Cup and the Champions League, and (potentially) the Barclays Premier League title.

Of course, Manchester United still remain favorites to reclaim the Premier League trophy, but Moyes must learn from his mistakes (that's if he doesn't get the boot).
